August in Johannesburg. The air was electric, though some of that might have been nerves. Shaun Soulo and Fede Fernandez — recording as Son Of A 1000 — were adamant about one thing: surrender to the flow. Let the vulnerability lead. No overthinking. No safety nets.
Back then I was still learning the difference between performance and art, still chasing the rush of the moment more than the truth beneath it. We were young, hungry, more concerned with how it felt than what it meant. This session holds that raw energy — two voices, one guitar, and the nerve to be completely exposed.
By 2015 the band would buckle under the weight of external validation, worn down by an industry that rewards performance over honesty.
